Collin E. Newberry

Collin E. Newberry, 78, of Dongola, died Saturday morning, July 11, 2009, at Hillview Heathcare in Vienna.

He was born Jan. 29, 1931, in Cobden, the son of Casey Laton and Edna Marie Adams Newberry.  He was married on Oct. 10, 1949, to Pauline Marie Morber.

Collin worked as an operating engineer at Whitehill Quarry.  He was a member of First Baptist Church in Ullin, the Anna Moose Lodge, Operating Engineers Local 318 for over 50 years.  He served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455. 

Survivors include his wife, Marie Newberry of Dongola; a daughter Karen (Marvin) Sperry of Dongola; two sons, Ron (Joellen) Newberry of Grantsburg and Steve Newberry of Dongola; five grandchildren, Casey Newberry of Grantsburg, Candice (Andy) Barker of Alto Pass, Megan Sperry of Dongola, Nathan (Melanie) Newberry of Anna, and Dustin Newberry of Dongola; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Gibbons and Joann Brimm both of Cobden; three brothers, Bob Newberry of Anna, Don Newberry of Lombard, and Roger Newberry of Cobden; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Billy Johnson and Chad Newberry; and a great grandson Kyle Kissiar.

Funeral services for Collin E. Newberry will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, at Crain Funeral Home, Anna-Jonesboro with Rev. Clint Nale officiating.  Interment will be in Casper Cemetery with military honors by Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455. 

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Crain Funeral Home, Anna-Jonesboro. 

Memorials may be made to Diabetes Research.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
