College’s writing contest open to high school students

Shawnee Community College is sponsoring a writing contest which is open to area high school students.

The Celebrating Young Writers contest has three categories: short fiction, poetry and nonfiction essay.

Entries will be judged by college faculty and staff members in two divisions: 9th/10th grade and 11th/12th grade.

The deadline to submit entries is Feb. 14. The contest has no entry fee.

Winners will be honored at an awards ceremony and all entrants will be celebrated at a reception which is planned on April 24, 2014, at the college. Cash prizes will be awarded.
