Cobden volleyball has four returning seniors

The Cobden High School volleyball team advanced to the Class 1A super-sectional last season for the first time in school history before being defeated.

Head coach Nathan Emrick would like to repeat that feat.

Four seniors graduated from last season’s school record 26-11 squad.

“We graduated four really good seniors,” Emrick said. “We’ve got some big shoes to fill. But we’ve got a good core coming back.”

Four returning starting seniors are outside hitter Megan Rhodes; outside hitter/right side hitter Elle Mason; middle hitter Lexi Miller and libero/defensive specialist Harleigh Braden.

Other seniors in the mix are setter Morgan Bass and right side hitter/server Maddie Bundren.

Juniors who could contribute are right side hitter/server Liv Schroeder; libero/server Lauren Sweitzer and middle hitter Jamison Cowart.

Underclassmen could contribute as well to the team’s success.

“We’ve got some freshmen on the team that at some point in the year are going to have a chance to sub for us and really help us out,” Emrick said.

The team has had some good practice sessions in preparation for the season.

“The girls have all been working hard,” Emrick said. “I think we’ll have more depth than in the past.”

Cobden, which opened its season earlier this week, plays at Anna-Jonesboro Thursday, today.
