Cobden tops Elverado to win sectional

With one out in the bottom of the 11th inning, Kayla Quertermous had a hit to left center field to score the winning run in Cobden’s 2-1 victory over Elverado in the Class 1A Trico high school softball sectional championship Saturday, May 30.

Quertermous scored teammate Taylor Orsburn, who was on base with a one-out walk. DaCota Knop followed with a bunt single to put runners on 1st and 2nd base.

The Appleknockers scored the other run in the 3rd inning behind a pair of Lady Falcon errors.

The bases were loaded on a pair of walks to Jenna Lehr and Orsburn and Duda safely on base with an error.

Quertermous followed with a fielder’s choice that got Lehr out at home.

On the relay throw to first base for the double play from the catcher, Quertermous was hit in the back with the ball, scoring Duda.

Orsburn was 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Appleknockers hitting attack.

Quertermous was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Knop was 1-for-5.

Knop, 13-3, was the winning pitcher, scattering 4 hits to go with 8 strikeouts and 3 walks.

Losing hurler Jenna Cochran allowed 5 hits to go with 10 strikeouts and 4 walks.

Cobden 6, Pope County 0: Orsburn, 14-1, was the winning pitcher with a one-hitter to go with 12 strikeouts and a walk.

Orsburn was 3-for-3 with 3 doubles and 2 RBIs to lead the hitting.

Knop was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Lindsey Morrison was 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Quetermous was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Duda was 1-for-3.

With the victory, Cobden, 29-4, moved on to play Cumberland Monday in super-sectional action in Carbond
