Cobden softball wins regionals

<p class="p1">Cobden defeated Anna 10-4 to win the Class M regional junior high school softball tournament at Anna Saturday, Sept. 26.</p><p class="p1">Lauren Sweitzer was 2-for-3 with 2 stolen bases to lead Cobden.</p><p class="p1">Emily White was 1-for-1 with an RBI. Amy Pender was 1-for-3 with a double. Makenzie Howell was 1-for-5 with a stolen base.</p><p class="p1">Alyssa Penrod was the winning pitcher with a six-hitter. She had 5 walks and 2 strikeouts.</p><p class="p1">Tobie Treece was 2-for-4 with 2 stolen bases to lead Anna. Payton Seip was 1-for-2. Taylor Harvel was 1-for-3. </p><p class="p1">Brylee Oxford was 1-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Keri Rendleman was 1-for-4 with a stolen base.</p><p class="p1">Avery Page was the losing pitcher. She had a five-hitter to go with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts.</p><p class="p1">Earlier, Cobden finished in second place in the Southern Illinois Conference tournament at Jonesboro.</p><p class="p1">Cobden defeated Jonesboro 25-15 on Saturday, Sept. 12, and then lost to Century 13-3 in the championship game on Wednesday, Sept. 16.</p><p class="p1">Cobden advances to the Class M state tournament at Pinckneyville to play Marissa at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3.  </p>
