Cobden closes tourney play with 1-2 record

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">The Cobden High School boys’ basketball team lost twice to close out action in the Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The Appleknockers finished 1-2 in the tournament after winning their opener over Johnston City.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1"><strong>Sesser-Valier 91, Cobden 67:</strong> Logan Spalt scored 34 points to lead the Appleknockers in the loss Tuesday, Dec. 29.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">J.T. Moore added 13 points for Cobden. John Russell and Austin Lewey had 8 points apiece and Clayton Eck and  Connar Allen 2 each.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Cobden trailed 24-14 at the end of one quarter and 45-34 at the half.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1"><strong>Woodlawn 71, Cobden 42:</strong> The Appleknockers fell behind early and couldn’t catch up in the loss Monday, Dec. 28.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The Cardinals pulled ahead 12-4 after one quarter and were out front 31-21 at the half.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Lewey scored 13 points to lead the Appleknockers. Russell and Spalt added 8 points apiece, Moore 5, Eck 4, Dane Inman 3 and Dylan Duty 1.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Cobden, 5-6, is scheduled to play Saturday at Thompsonville.</span></p>
