Cobden baseball team 1-1 to open spring play

The Cobden High School baseball team split in recent action to open the spring season.

Cobden defeated Johnston City but lost to Murphysboro.

Following are game summaries:

Cobden 10, Johnston City 2: Robby Lehr was 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs to lead host Cobden to the win Thursday, March 18.

Steve Draper was 2-for-3 wth an RBI. Garret Marks was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Alex Sweitzer was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Chris Solomon was 1-for-2. Aaron Cerny was 1-for-3 with 3 RBIs.

Draper, Blake Wiggs and Sweitzer pitched in the win.

Draper pitched 4 innings and allowed a hit to go with 7 strikeouts and a walk.

Wiggs pitched 2 innings and allowed 3 hits to go with 3 strikeouts and a walk.

Sweitzer pitched an inning and didn’t allow a hit to go with 2 strikeouts and a walk.

Murphysboro 3, Cobden 2:  The Appleknockers out hit the host Red Devils 4-2 in the loss Friday, March 19.

Aaron Cerny was 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs to lead the Appleknockers. Josh Ashton was 1-for-2. Lehr was 1-for-3. Draper was 1-for-4.

Sweitzer was the losing pitcher despite tossing a two-hitter to go with 6 strikeouts and 7 walks.

Cobden, 1-1, plays at home Friday against Herrin.
