Charles W. "Chuck" Harvel, 86, of rural Tamms, died at 11:06 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, 2016 in the Jonesboro Rehab and Nursing Center. He was born Oct. 29, 1929 in De Soto, Illinois, the son of Harry and Bessie (Davis) Harvel. He married Shirley J. Sowers on April 11, 1953 in Corinth, Mississippi.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley J. Harvel of rural Tamms; children, Vickie Jacobs of Sparta; Richard (Suzan) Harvel of Augusta, Georgia, Charles (Martha) Harvel of Tamms, Tina (Darron) Moore of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Tami, Wendy, Sarah, Rachel, Nikki, Allison, Scott, and Samuel; ten great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Ashley, Tristen, Brody, Laila, Liam, Stella, Hadassah, Zipporah, and Havilah; one great-great grandson, Asher; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Beulah, Loyd, Dempsey, Mary, Jim, Hazel, Tom, Fred, and Louie.
He was a member of the Mill Creek Baptist Church for many years. He was a skilled carpenter in the construction industry. Chuck proudly served his country in the United States Army Airborne during the Korean Conflict.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15, 2016 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Rev. Paul Tirey officiating. Interment was in the St. Johns Cemetery. Graveside military rites were conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna and the Illinois Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team of Marion. Envelopes will be available in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
