Charles Edward Owen Jr

Charles Edward Owen Jr., 88, of Carbondale, died at 8:10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at Carbondale Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

He was born on May 3, 1921, in West Frankfort, the son of Charles (Emma Celeste) Edward Owen Sr.

He married Geraldine Issacs Owen on Dec. 14, 1941, in Cape Girardeau.

He was co-owner of Owen Brothers Heating and Air.

He served in the Navy Seabee’s in World War II.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge in Carbondale, the VFW and American Legion in Carbondale, the Ainad Shrine in East St. Louis and a member of the sheet metal union in Collinsville.

He was a member of the University Baptist Church in Carbondale.

A masonic service was held at 8 p.m. on Monday at Walker Funeral Home in Alto Pass.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 10 a.m. at the University Baptist Church with Pastor Ken Wallace officiating.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Harriet (Tom) Davis of Harrisburg; two sons, Charles (Mary) Edward Owen III of Westerville, Ohio, and Mike Owen of Carbondale; one brother, Frank Owen of Carbondale; one sister, Lottie Harvey of Ridgewood, N.J.; six grandchildren, Julie (Brendan) Geoghan, Charlie Owen IV, Melissa (Brad) Potrikus, Teresa (Tim) Brandon, Tiffany (Marque) Howard and Jason Owen; four great-grandchildren, Erin and Riley Geoghan, Mackenzie Brandon and Dylan Howard; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Edna Mae Smith; and two grandchildren, Nikki Owen and Jay Davis.

Walker Funeral Home in Alto Pass was in charge of arrangements.
