Car show, Oktoberfest scheduled in Cobden this weekend

The Village of Cobden is planning to host a car show, an Oktoberfest event, a community-wide yard sale and other activities on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The car show and Oktoberfest will be held in the park in downtown Cobden. Proceeds from the events will go to charitable and community projects.

Southern Counties Autos Unlimited plans to sponsor a nonjudged car show which will feature a variety of models.

The car show is scheduled to begin at noon and will continue into the evening. Food, music, games, a poker run, a charity fundraiser and other activities are planned.

Registration for the car show is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Games start at 2 p.m. A poker run is set for 4 p.m.

Those who want to take part in the poker run will be asked to make a $5 donation. Proceeds will go to the Cross of Peace at Bald Knob Mountain near Alto Pass.

In conjunction with the car show, the Cobden Lions Club plans to host an Oktoberfest.

A food booth will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fried fish and other items will be served. A beer tent will be open from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Musical entertainment will be presented by Backdraft from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Diamond Dogs Lite are scheduled to perform from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Other family friendly activities are planned at Oktoberfest.

The Village of Cobden plans to sponsor a fall community yard sale day on Oct. 5. Yard sales are planned throughout the village.

Yard sale maps will be available at Cobden Village Hall on East Maple Street starting at 7 a.m.

The Union County Museum on South Appleknocker in downtown Cobden plans to have special hours on Oct. 5.

The museum and its resale shop are scheduled to be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The museum is hosting an exhibit which features the art work of the late Maurice Metzger. The exhibit features nearly 50 works of art created by the Anna native.

A list of other activities and places to visit in the Cobden area will be available at the museum.
