Brenda Sue Phillips


<p class="p1">Brenda Sue Phillips, 51,  of Anna, died at 9:15 p.m. on Jan. 8, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family and loved ones.</p><p class="p1">She was born on Dec. 23, 1963, in Chester, the daughter of James E. Brown and Doris Jean Cox Brown.</p><p class="p1">She married Gary Lee Phillips on Sept. 20, 1986, in Anna.</p><p class="p1">She was a 1982 graduate  of Anna-Jonesboro Community High School, a 1984 graduate of Shawnee Community College and a 1986 graduate of Murray State University. She was a former employee of The Gazette-Democrat, Sitter Auction Service and the First Christian Church. She was also co-owner of Phillips Auto Wash in Anna. She was a member of the Countryside Christian Church in Vienna.</p><p class="p1">She is survived by her husband, Gary of Anna; children DJ and Jessica Phillips of Anna; a cousin who was closer than a sister, Kristie McAlister of Jonesboro; an aunt, Lucille Dallas of Anna; a mother-in-law, Jan Phillips of Flora; many dear cousins, extended family and much-loved friends.</p><p class="p1">She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Jean Brown; her father-in-law, Doug Phillips; grandparents Ford and Lura Cox, Gid and Bertha Brown; many aunts, uncles and cousins.</p><p class="p1">Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro with Bill Littrell and her cousins, R.W. McAlister and Bryan McAlister, officiating.</p><p class="p1">Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery in Flora on Monday, Jan. 12, at 2:30 p.m. with a graveside service with Dennis Arnold officiating.</p><p class="p1">Memorials can be made to the activity department of the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna or to Countryside Christian Church in Vienna.</p><p class="p1">To leave online condolences, visit</p><p class="p1">Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro was in charge of arrangements.</p>
