Arline M. Foley

Arline M. Foley, 91, of Anna, passed away peacefully at 8:13 p.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at the Union County Hospital in Anna.

She was born April 30, 1918, in Piper City, Ill., the firstborn child of Russell and Sybialla Bard Peterson.

She was united in marriage to John J. (Jack) Foley on February 21, 1942 in St. Charles, Ill. Arline and Jack only knew one another one month before eloping. After her parents became aware that she had eloped during Lent, Arline and Jack were married in a proper Catholic ceremony. He preceded her in death on February 17, 1997.

Arline was the proud mother of John D. Foley (Tracee) of Anna and Elizabeth A. Foley of Cleveland, Tenn.

She was blessed with 4 grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, Katie and Jenna.

She is also survived by one sister, Marge and Dr. Dean Hungness of Sheldon, Ill.; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Arline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Foley, to whom she was married for 55 years; and an infant brother, Maurice Peterson; and her brother, George Peterson in 1976.

Arline was a registered nurse. She worked at Resurrection Hospital, Northwest Community Hospital, and in her later years, as a school nurse in Palatine, Ill. Early in her career she was the company nurse for International Harvester in Chicago, Ill., where she met her husband, Jack.

Arline was known for her warming smile, her quick wit, her penchant for theme parties for friends during the 1950’s and 1960’s, and she was an avid African violet gardener. After her husband’s retirement in 1976, she enjoyed spending winters in Florida, playing golf with her husband and their golf community friends.

During her last five years of her life, Arline resided at the Union County Hospital Skilled Care Facility, where the staff took exceptional care of her. Prior to that, she had resided at the Jackson County Rehab and Care Facility where she was also treated very kindly. Arline’s family would like to express their gratitude to her care providers.

Funeral services for Mrs. Arline Marie Foley were at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 25, 2009, at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Interment was in the Anna City Cemetery.

Friends could call at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna after 1 p.m. Friday until the funeral hour.

Arline suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, which affects many families. Her family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
