Anna pool's future discussed

Plans for possible major improvements at the city pool in Anna are under review.

The proposal was on the agenda at this week's regular meeting of the Anna City Council.

The meeting was Tuesday evening at Anna City Hall.

The condition of the city pool has been a topic of discussion at a number of council meetings during 2012.

The pool is located at the Anna City Park. A pool for young children is located near the main pool.

City administrator Steve Guined said that the pool had a "very successful season" during the summer of 2012. Attendance and concessions were up during the season.

Guined noted that the city spent about $10,000 to do work on the pool's filtration system prior to the 2012 season.

The city is faced with having to install a lift, or lifts, in the two pools. The lifts are required in order for the pools to meet the guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act, ADA. The lifts must be installed by the time the pools open in 2013.

In light of meeting the ADA guidelines, Guined presented the council with a multifaceted proposal for the future of the pools.

The proposal presented to the council has three initial options:

•Installation of lifts in both pools at an estimated cost of $18,390.
