Alto Pass to host Fall Festival

Alto Pass is making plans to host its fifth annual Fall Festival.

This year's celebration is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Oct. 4-5, in the Union County village.

The Fall Festival is sponsored by the Alto Pride Community Group.

The festival will feature a backyard barbeque competition, a Great Downhill Derby, an apple bake-off competition, live music, a raffle, concessions and more.

Live music is planned from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at the pavilion in downtown Alto Pass. All musicians are welcome.

The apple bake-off competition is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

The barbeque competitions gets underway Friday and continues on Saturday.

New this year is the Great Downhill Derby. The event is set for 10 a.m. Saturday.

Barbeque Competition

The backyard barbeque competition will be held rain or shine.

Categories will include chicken and KidsQ chicken, pork ribs (loin or spare) and KidsQ pork, pork (shoulder/butt) and beef brisket.

A grand champion will be named, as will first-, second- and third-place winners.

Great Downhill Derby

The Great Downhill Derby is being presented by the Village of Alto Pass and the Alto Pass Business Association.

The derby is billed as a family event which is designed to encourage participation through parent-child or team-building experience.

Divisions include kids ages 6-9, 10-13 and 14-17, teams under age 18, and adults and teams ages 18 and older.

Categories will include competitive (built for speed), novelty/creativity (built for fun) and the people's choice (the spectator favorite).
