Allegra Jones
Allegra Jones, 97, of Herrin, passed away at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, April 29, 2010 at her residence in Herrin.
Mrs. Jones formerly worked in food services for the University of Illinois in Champaign and for the Herrin Hospital. She also worked for Sangamo Electric and the ordinance plant in the Ordill area.
She was a member of First Christian Church in Johnston City.
She was born May 13, 1912 in Union County to Allen and Ellen (Treece) Coleman.
Allegra was united in marriage with William Roy Jones in Carterville. He preceded her in death on June 24, 1990.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, William A. Jones of Champaign and Ralph “Pete” and Mary Ellen Jones of Herrin; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law Charles and Betty Coleman of Mayfield, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert “Bob” Jones; daughter-in-law Verba Jones; parents; sister Elizabeth Upshaw; and three brothers, Clarence Coleman, Ralph Coleman and Arthur Coleman.
Services took place Monday, May 3, 2010 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Lee Petty officiating. Interment followed in Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin.
The prefered form of remembrance is memorial donations made to the First Christian Church, 505 East Broadway, Johnston City, Ill., 62951. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
