Alice Joy Berrier Keller

<p class="p1">Alice Joy Berrier Keller, 65, of Makanda, died at 6 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family.</p><p class="p1">She was born on Oct. 22, 1950, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Mary Grear Berrier.</p><p class="p1">She married Jerry E. Keller on June 12, 1971.</p><p class="p1">All of her life, Alice knew she wanted to be a teacher. From 1972 until her retirement in 2009, Alice taught 1st grade and remedial reading at Jonesboro Grade School. She touched the hearts and lives of many of the families in the Anna-Jonesboro Community and it was not uncommon for people to come up to her and thank her for being their teacher. She also loved horses, reading, the mysteries of science, animals and her family.</p><p class="p1">Survivors include her husband, Jerry Keller of Makanda; a daughter, Heidi Keller of Jonesboro; a granddaughter, Sally Sims, and grandson, Elias Knight, both of Jonesboro; a sister, Donna Edwards of Canby, Oregon; many other friends and relatives.</p><p class="p1">She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, MaryBeth Pearl-Gent.</p><p class="p1">As per her wishes, there will be no services.</p><p class="p1">The family suggest donations be made to the Pancreatic Center Action Network (pancan.org) 877-435-8650.</p><p class="p1">Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro was in charge of arrangements.</p><p class="p1">To leave online condolences, visit www.crainsonline.com.</p>
