1983, 1984 A-J teams to be honored
This year is the 25th anniversary of Anna-Jonesboro Community High School’s 1984 football state championship.
This year also is the 26th anniversary of the 1983 A-J squad which finished as runners-up in the state football playoffs.
The 2009 A-JCHS Wildcat football team, along with the athletic department and school community, are planning to honor both teams.
Friday, Oct. 9, has been set aside as a day to honor the two teams.
On the evening of Oct. 9, A-J is scheduled to host Chester for the final time as a conference opponent.
Chester is moving to the Black Diamond Conference.
The Oct. 9 game is being planned as a commemorative occasion for members of the 1983 and 1984 teams.
Events planned on Oct. 9 include:
•7 a.m., 2009 Wildcat team breakfast. The breakfast will be at the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. The church is located at 201 W. Walnut in Jonesboro. All of those who are able and want to attend the 2009 varsity team’s breakfast are invited to do so.
•5:30 p.m., dinner in the A-JCHS cafeteria. Members of the 1983 and 1984 teams and their spouses or guests are invited to dine together at the school, compliments of the A-J Wildcats and the Huddle Club.
•Halftime of varsity game, members of the 1983 and 1984 teams will be introduced and recognized on the field.
•Following the game, a reception is planned at the Anna-Jonesboro Elks Lodge to honor the 1983 and 1984 teams.
