Nashville, 3-0, set to welcome Wildcats

After three non-conference games to open the season, this will be the first Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Mississippi Division match up for the Wildcats.

The Nashville High School football team has built a 3-0 record after a 47-6 win over Wesclin last weekend and is scheduled to host Anna-Jonesboro Friday night, Sept. 20.

Game time is set for 7 p.m. The game will be aired on WIBH radio in Anna.

After three non-conference games to open the season, this will be the first Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Mississippi Division match up for the Wildcats.

“Nashville has scored a ton of points,” A-J coach Brett Detering said. “They have a lot of offensive weapons.”

Detering said the Hornets have scored 177 points this season and have had a running clock in their first three games. The game clock doesn’t stop when a team gets 40 points ahead.

Quarterbacking the Hornets this season is junior Cole Malawy.

His top receivers downfield are juniors Nick Miller, Jaxon Goforth and Gavin Baldwin.

The top running back threats are junior Luke Ehret and senior Julian Metcalf.

The main offensive linemen are juniors Rhyker Rees, Bryce Middleton and senior Neil Kabat.

Top defenders include Rees at defensive end and Kabat on the line. Twin brothers man the linebackers spots in seniors Jackson Aulds and Justin Aulds.

Detering noted that the Hornets’ only regular season loss last season was to the Wildcats.

“I’m sure it’s in the back of their minds,” Detering said.

The Wildcats, 1-2, enter the game after their first win of the season over Massac County last Friday night.
