Lady Wildcats defeat Vienna to win 5th place at Lady Eagle Winter Classic
The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School girls’ basketball team fell behind early but rallied to score a 38-25 win over Vienna in the final game at the Lady Eagle Winter Classic at Eldorado Saturday, Jan. 19.
Vienna went ahead 6-1 in the first quarter before the Lady Wildcats came on to pull to 15-14 at the half. A-J outscored the Lady Eagles 18-0 in a third quarter run that was built around two 3-pointers by Angel Helm and one each by Mikayla Bundren and Kristin Edmonds.
Anna Hess led the way for A-J with 10 points, a rebound and 3 steals.
Edmonds had 10 points, a rebound and a steal. Helm had 9 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals and an assist.
Bundren had 5 points and 2 assists. Jaley Watkins had 4 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 steals.
Jacee Woodward had 4 rebounds. Julia Ellis had 3 rebounds and a steal.
The Lady Wildcats finished with a 3-2 record at the Classic and won 5th place with the victory over Vienna.
A-J 48, Carmi-White County 33: Helm led the way with 20 points, 5 rebounds, 7 steals, an assist and a block in the Classic win Friday, Jan. 18.
Watkins added 12 points, 2 rebounds, a steal and an assist. Bundren had 3 rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Kaya Coleman had 4 points and a rebound. Edmonds had 3 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, a steal and a block.
Woodward had 2 points and a rebound. Hess had 2 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a block.
Harrisburg 50, A-J 42: The Lady Wildcats couldn’t catch up after the first quarter in the Classic loss Tuesday, Jan. 15.
Edmonds led the way with 12 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.
Helm had 10 points, 11 rebounds, an assist and a block. Watkins had 8 points, 5 rebounds, a block and an assist.
Sydney Heath had 5 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Bundren had 5 points and 2 rebounds. Hess had 2 points, 8 rebounds, an assist and a block.
Fairfield 42, A-J 35: Bundren had 14 points, 3 rebounds and an assist in the loss Monday, Jan. 14.
Watkins had 9 points and 3 rebounds. Hess had 7 points, 6 rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Helm had 3 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Coleman had 2 points, 2 rebounds and a block.
A-J, 17-7 overall, plays Thursday, today, at Pinckneyville.
