Jonesboro girls win Class S event
The Jonesboro School girls’ cross country team won the Class S pre-state meet at Centralia.
Local cross country teams competed in their pre-state meets on Saturday Oct. 5. Lick Creek School also competed at the event.
The Jonesboro School girls outpaced the field at Centralia’s Foundation Park to take home the first place trophy.
Jonesboro’s girls finished with 104 points ahead of St. Bruno Catholic of Pinckneyville, which had 123, followed by St. Joseph Olney with 168.
Leading the Lady Bulldogs as she has all year was Zoe Jones, who finished in 10th place with a time of 12:22.
Next for the Lady Bulldogs was Reese Jones in 15th, who was followed by Brianna Hileman in 22nd.
Kenzie Miller finished in 26th and Kinley Leek was just behind her in 31st place.
Raegan Jones came in at 47 and Mackenzie Pearson was 95th. There were a 164 runners in the varsity race.
Lick Creek Results
Lick Creek standout Jadyn Gerardi came in second overall with her personal best time of 11:19.
Meranda Wright came in 57th, Kylee Myers came in 59th and 3rd grader Lilliah Hoehner came in 63rd. Kenzie Stover and Mya Clutts rounded out the scoring at 124 and 127, respectively.
Competing in the JV races were Blake Abernathy and Ben Margraff of Jonesboro, Kaleb Stover, Luke Schlenker and Leah Buchheit of Lick Creek.
The teams’ next race is scheduled Thursday, today, at Pine Lakes Golf Course, which will be their final tune up for their state meet which is Oct. 19.
