A-J/Cobden soccer ends regular season play 11-5-3; hosts 1A regional this week
The Anna-Jonesboro/Cobden co-op boys’ high school soccer team went 2-1 as it wrapped up regular season play for the fall.
Carbondale 2, A-J/Cobden 0: Jacob Schaefer played 80 minutes in goal and had 13 saves for visiting A-J/Cobden Thursday, Oct. 10.
A-J/Cobden 5, Pinckneyville 2: Steen Vaca Diez scored 2 goals to lead visiting A-J/Cobden to the win Wednesday, Oct. 9.
Romeo Godinez, Carlos Valencia and Blake Pena had a goal apiece for the winners.
Maddox Thorpe and Godinez had an assist apiece.
Schaefer played 80 minutes in goal and had 2 saves.
A-J/Cobden 6, Massac County 0: Pena scored 3 goals to lead host A-J/Cobden to the win Tuesday, Oct. 8.
Thorpe had 2 goals and Valencia added a goal.
Godinez had 2 assists. Beco Vaca Diez, Juan Valencia, Noah Treece and Pena each had an assist.
Schaefer played 80 minutes in goal and had 3 saves.
A-J/Cobden, which finished the regular season at 11-5-3, hosts a Class 1A regional this week and was to have played Pinckneyville on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The regional championship is scheduled for Saturday.
“We had a pretty good season,” A-J/Cobden coach Mark Boomer said. “We hope to get past regionals now and get going.”
