A-J softball team posts wins over Plano, Cobden
The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School softball team won two games and lost twice in action last week.
A-J 7, Plano 5: Tobie Treece and Katie Shepard were each 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the host Lady Wildcats to the win Thursday, March 28.
Morgan Wendling was 2-for-4. Payton Seip and Katie Mays were both 1-for-3.
Wendling was the winning pitcher, allowing 5 hits to go with 3 walks and 13 strikeouts.
Goreville 22, A-J 11: Treece and Seip were each 3-for-4 to lead the host Lady Wildcats in the loss Wednesday, March 27.
Julia Ellis, Mays and Petey Foster were each 1-for-3. Shepard was 1-for-4.
Wendling, Cori Turner and Abigail Dahmer pitched in the loss. Wendling pitched 3 innings and allowed 6 hits to go with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Turner pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed 7 hits to go with a walk and no strikeouts. Dahmer pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed 4 hits to go with 2 walks and no strikeouts.
Murphysboro 14, A-J 2: Seip was 2-for-3 to lead the hitting for host A-J Tuesday, March 26.
Foster, Wendling and Mays were each 1-for-3. Shepard was 1-for-4.
Wendling and Turner pitched. Wendling pitched 4 innings and allowed 7 hits to go with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Turner pitched an inning and allowed 4 hits to go with a walk and no strikeouts.
A-J 15, Cobden 4: Wendling was the winning pitcher with a four-hitter to go with 3 walks and 8 strikeouts for the host Lady Wildcats Monday, March 25.
Seip and Shepard were each 2-for-3 to lead the hitting. Wendling was 2-for-4. Dahmer was 1-for-1. Ellis, Turner and Treece were both 1-for-2. Mays was 1-for-3.
A-J, 3-8, is scheduled to play Thursday, today, at home against Pinckneyville.
