A-J softball scores win over host team in play at West Frankfort tourney
The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School softball team finished 1-2 at the West Frankfort Tournament Saturday, April 21.
Carterville 12, A-J 2: Jasmin Foster was 2-for-2 to lead the Lady Wildcats in the first game loss.
Morgan Wendling and Payton Alsip were each 1-for-2. Alexa Macy, Tobie Treece and Lexi Smith were 1-for-3.
Cori Turner and Avery Page pitched and combined to scatter 14 hits to go with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.
A-J 7, West Frankfort 6: Wendling was 2-for-3 with a grand slam home run to lead A-J to the win.
Britni Helton and Katie Mays were each 1-for-2. Abby Williams, Foster and Alsip were all 1-for-4.
Wendling piched 6 1/3 innings and allowed 4 hits to go with 5 walks and 6 strikeouts. Page pitched 2/3 of an inning and didn’t allow a hit with no walks and a strikeout.
Du Quoin 19, A-J 9: Macy was 3-for-4 to lead A-J in the loss in the final game.
Smith and Helton were each 1-for-1. Wendling was 1-for-3 and Foster was 1-for-4.
Helton pitched 4 innings and allowed 10 hits to go with 2 walks and a strikeout. Page pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed 2 hits to go with 3 walks and a strikeout.
A-J 7, Cobden 3: Helton with 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI to lead the visiting Lady Wildcats to the win Thursday, April 19.
Treece and Wendling were each 2-for-4. Abby Williams was 1-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Smith was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Macy and Mays were each 1-for-4.
Wendling was the winning pitcher, allowing 5 hits to go with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts.
Nashville 7, A-J 5: Treece was 2-for-3 to lead the hitting in the Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Mississippi Division loss Wednesday, April 18.
Smith was 2-for-4. Wendling, Mays, Macy and Helton were each 1-for-3. Abby Williams was 1-for-4.
Helton was the losing pitcher, scatttering 11 hits to go with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.
A-J, 8-10, is scheduled to play Thursday, today, at Herrin.
