A-J's Lasley sets record in pole vault

Anna-Jonesboro Communty High School’s Julia Lasley had a record jump of 11-6 to win the pole vault at the Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Mississippi and Ohio Divisions meet at Benton, Thursday, May 2.

“I knew going in she could do it,” A-J coach Michael Eudy said. “I’m not surprised that she did really well in the pole vault.”

After setting the record, Lasley attempted a vault at 11-9, but fell short.

Lasley topped former A-J student athlete Hannah Reach’s 10-0 pole vault record.

Du Quoin won the Mississippi Conference meet with a score of 217. A-J finished third at 81. Nashville was second with 100.

Anna Hess won second place for the Lady Wildcats in the shot put with a toss of 34-1.

Third place efforts for A-J were recorded by Addison Osman in the triple jump with 32-9 1/2 and the 100-meter hurdles in 16.44; the 4x800-meter relay team of Olivia Bowen, Sydnie Ralls, Addison Denny and Kristen Edmonds in 11:22.25; the 4x200-meter relay team of Brayden Fitzgerald-Deener, Lasley, Angel Helm and Amiyah Hart in 1:52.36; Carsen Clements in the 300-meter hurdles in 53.05; and Hart in the 200-meter dash in 27.89.

Fourth place efforts for the Lady Wildcats were posted by Jade Marks in the long jump with 15-0 3/4; Hess in the discus with a toss of 91-6; Carrola Ghiani in the 3200-meter run in 14:23.61; and Helm in the 200-meter dash in 28.46.

Fifth place efforts were recorded by Julia Hall in the 3200-meter run in 14:48.23 and the 4x400-meter relay team of Fitzgerald-Deener, Lasley, Marks and Edmonds in 4:33.82.

Sixth place efforts were posted by Osman in the high jump with 4-8; Addison Denny in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.72; Hart in the 100-meter dash in 13.62; Bowen in the 800-meter run in 1:24.20; and Ghiani in the 1600-meter run in 6:29.26;.

Seventh place efforts were recorded by Clements in the high jump with 4-6; Helm in the 100-meter dash in 13.64; Ralls in the 800-meter run in 2:56.79; Marks in the triple jump in 30-4 and the 400-meter dash in 1:10.49; and Hall in the 1600-meter run in 6:31.38.

Eighth place efforts were posted by Ralls in the long jump with 13-5 1/4; Edmonds in the shot put with 29-9; Jacee Woodward in the discus with  a  toss of 79-5; and Emma Tweedy in the 400-meter dash in 1:11.90.

The A-J girls compete Thursday, today, at the Class 2A sectional in Triad.
