A-J girls outscore Mt. Carmel in first round at tournament
The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School girls’ basketball team defeated Mt. Carmel 43-40 in first round action at the Eldorado Mid-Winter Classic Saturday, Jan. 12.
Anna Hess had 10 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a blocked shot to lead A-J.
Mikayla Bundren added 9 points, 3 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Angel Helm had 8 points, 7 steals, 5 rebounds, a block and an assist.
Jaley Watkins had 6 points, 2 rebounds and a steal and an assist. Kristin Edmonds had 5 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, a steal and a block.
Julia Ellis had 3 points. Sydney Heath had 2 points, a rebound and a steal. Jacee Woodward and Kaya Coleman had a rebound apiece.
A-J 17-5 overall, was slated to play Fairfield, Harrisburg and Carmi-White County in the Classic this week.
Visiting A-J defeated Herrin 41-25 in non-conference action Thursday, Jan. 10.
Bundren scored 13 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal to lead A-J.
Helm added 10 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists and blocks. Edmonds had 8 points, 2 assists and a rebound.
Watkins had 5 points, 4 assists, 4 steals and a rebound. Morgan Wendling had 5 points.
Woodward had 5 rebounds and a block. Ellis had 3 rebounds and a steal. Coleman had a rebound, a steal and a block.
The Lady Wildcats’ next regular season game is scheduled at home against Carterville on Tuesday, Jan. 22.
