A-J girls improve to 9-2 with three wins in recent action
The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School girls’ basketball team won three games in recent action.
A-J 56, Massac County 36: Angel Helm led the way with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the host Lady Wildcats Saturday, Dec. 15.
Mikayla Bundren added 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists. Kristin Edmonds had 7 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.
Jacee Woodward had 5 points, 8 rebounds and a steal. Jaley Watkins had 5 points, 5 rebounds and an assist.
Sydney Heath had 5 points and a rebound. Kaya Coleman had 3 points. Morgan Wendling had 2 points and a rebound.
A-J 54, Du Quoin 46: Watkins had 13 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals to lead visiting A-J to the Southern Illlinois River-to-River Conference Mississippi Division win Thursday, Dec. 13.
Edmonds added 13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. Heath had 12 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals.
Bundren had 8 points, 3 rebounds and an assist and a steal. Wendling and Julia Ellis each had 2 points, 2 rebounds and an assist apiece.
Helm had 2 points. Anna Hess had 2 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals and an assist. Woodward added 2 rebounds.
A-J 53, Pinckneyville 51: Bundren made a 3-pointer and Watkins sank a pair of free throws in the waning seconds to lift host A-J to the conference win Tuesday, Dec. 11.
Bundren, who finished with 20 points, was 6 of 9 from 3-point range and added 2 rebounds.
Helm had 10 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal and a block. Watkins had 9 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
Heath had 8 points and 2 steals. Edmonds had 4 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Wendling had 2 points and 4 rebounds. Woodward had 3 rebounds.
A-J, 9-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference, was scheduled to play Vienna Wednesday.
The Lady Wildcats play again in the Fairfield Tournament, which is scheduled for Dec. 26-27. The Lady Wildcats will play Carmi-White County at 11:45 a.m. and Oblong at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 26.
