A-J football preparing for opener
Turnout for the 2016 Anna-Jonesboro Community High School football team after a week of practice has been decent so far.
“We’re a little low on freshmen,” A-J football coach Brett Detering said.
There are 12 seniors, 9 juniors and 20 sophomores competing for starting varsity spots. There are also 15 freshmen.
The numbers are still tentative and Detering said a few prospective players are sick and some could still come out.
The 2016 preview for the team is planned in next week’s paper.
The Wildcats will try to erase a 4-5 record from last season and vie for another playoff spot after a 15-season run.
A-J plans to open its season at home against West Frankfort Friday, Aug. 26.
