Cobden Junior Legion team splits in recent play

The Cobden Junior American Legion baseball team split in recent action.

Cobden 14, Christopher 4: Bryce Reynolds was 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs to lead host Cobden to the win Sunday, June 26.

John Russell was 2-for-3 for Cobden. Cody Wieseman was 2-for-4. Trevor Middleton was 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs. Chandler Edwards and Zane Nance were each 1-for-2 with an RBI apiece. Austin Lewey was 1-for-2 with a double. Dylan Duty was 1-for-2. 

Chandler West, Middleton and Russell pitched in the win and combined for a one-hitter. The trio logged 7 walks and 8 strikeouts.

Benton 14, Cobden 12: Visiting Cobden jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the opening inning and couldn’t hold the lead in the loss Friday, June 24.

Russell was 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs to lead Cobden at the plate. Brayden Clark was 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs.

Lewey was 1-for-1. Duty was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Zane Nance and Cody Wieseman were each 1-for-2. Middleton was 1-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Clayton Flamm was 1-for-5. Chandler Edwards and Bayden Ditterline had an RBI apiece.

Wieseman, West, Middleton and Ditterline pitched in the loss, combining on 12 hits to go with 9 walks and 8 strikeouts.

Herrin 9, Cobden 8: Visiting Cobden couldn’t hold a four run lead in the final inning and stranded 9 in the loss Wednesday, June 22.

Russell was 2-for-4 with a double and 3 RBIs to lead Cobden at the plate. Middleton was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Ditterline was 1-for-2 with a double. Lewey was 1-for-2. Josh Burgess was 1-for-3. Nance was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Duty was 1-for-4.

Russell was the losing pitcher, allowing 7 hits to go with a walk and 6 strikeouts.

Cobden 9, Crab Orchard 3: Ditterline was 3-for-3 with a double and 2 RBIs to lead host Cobden to the win Monday, June 20.

Reynolds was 2-for-4 with a double. Duty was 2-for-4 with an RBI. West, Lewey and Russell were each 1-for-2 with an RBI apiece. Middleton and Wieseman were both 1-for-2 with a double each.

Ditterline and Russell pitched in the win. Ditterline pitched 6 innings and allowed 4 hits to go with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Russell pitched an inning and had 2 strikeouts.

Cobden, 5-5, is scheduled to play Thursday, today, at Metropolis. Cobden is scheduled to play again next Tuesday at home against Carterville.
