Cobden baseball tops Joppa-Maple Grove, Century, Pope County
The Cobden High School baseball team closed out regular season play with a 3-1 record.
Johnston City 10, Cobden 5: Chandler West was 1-for-1 to lead host Cobden in the loss Thursday, May 10.
Alex Remsey was 1-for-1 with a triple and 3 RBIs. John Russell and Zane Nance were each 1-for-4.
West and Bayden Ditterline pitched. West pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed 4 hits to go with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Ditterline pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed 4 hits to go with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts.
Cobden 20, Joppa-Maple Grove 8: Ditterline was 4-for-5 with a double and 4 RBIs to lead visiting Cobden in the winWednesday, May 9, in a game played at Century.
Clayton Flamm was 2-for-2 with a stolen base and an RBI. Russell was 2-for-4 with 2 doubles, a stolen base and 3 RBIs. Noah Franklin was 1-for-1. Dylan Lewey was 1-for-4 with 3 RBIs. Cody Wieseman was 1-for-4 with 2 RBIs. West was 1-for-5 with an RBI. Nance had an RBI.

Nance and Remsey were each 2-for-3. Franklin was 1-for-3 with a double. Ditterline was 1-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs. West and Lewey were each 1-for-4. Brayden Clark and Russell were each 1-for-5.
Russell, Franklin and West combined to pitch a four-hitter to go with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts.
Cobden 14, Pope County 7: Franklin was 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBIs to lead visiting Cobden to the win Tuesday, May 8.
Ditterline was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Wieseman was 2-for-4 with a stolen base and 3 RBIs. Nance was 2-for-5 with a double, stolen base and 2 RBIs. West was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Clark was 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Russell was 1-for-5 with 2 stolen bases and an RBI. Remsey added an RBI.
Nance was the winning pitcher, scattering 9 hits to go with a walk and 7 strikeouts.
Cobden, 12-6, was scheduled to play Wednesday against Cairo at the Egyptian Class 1A regional.
