Angel Helm scores 1,000th point during high school career
The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School girls’ basketball team split in action last week.
A-J 52, Murphysboro 32: The visiting Lady Wildcats pulled ahead early and held on for the win Saturday, Jan. 5.
Angel Helm led the way with 11 points, a rebound and an assist. She now has scored 1,000 points in her high school career.
Jaley Watkins had 10 points, 3 assists and a rebound. Anna Hess had 7 points, 3 assists and 2 rebounds.
Kristin Edmonds had 6 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Kaya Coleman had 4 points and 3 rebounds.
Julia Ellis had 4 points and 2 assists. Jacee Woodward had 2 points and 7 rebounds.
Morgan Wendling had 2 points and a rebound. Sydney Heath had 6 rebounds. Mikayla Bundren had 3 rebounds and an assist.
Goreville 51, A-J 46: The host Lady Blackcats pulled ahead in the second quarter on their way to the win Thursday, Jan. 3.
Helm had 13 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocked shots to lead A-J.
Edmonds had 10 points, 4 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Wendling had 10 points and a rebound.
Watkins had 5 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. Bundren had 5 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Woodward had 3 points, 5 rebounds and a steal.
A-J, 15-4, is scheduled to play Thursday, today, at Herrin and Saturday at the Eldorado Tournament.
