Shawnee College notes deadline for scholarships

Students who are interested in applying for any Shawnee Community College scholarship must complete and submit the required application and supporting documentation to the college’s financial aid office on or before Feb. 1.

There are a few scholarships with later deadlines, the college noted.

Complete scholarship application information is available by clicking on the financial aid section on the SCC website: www.shawneecc.edu/financial_aid/ .

There are a variety of scholarships available at SCC based on financial need, academic achievement, artistic ability, college major, community activities and special interests.

Students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, FAFSA.

When several applicants meet the stated criteria, financial need will be considered.

Students who receive scholarships are expected to remain in 15 hours each semester, unless otherwise noted.

Students must remain in good standing in terms of conduct and citizenship as determined by the college. The student is responsible for making sure all requirements are met.

To apply for scholarships, students are advised to read each scholarship description carefully, as some require additional items other than the application.

Students will be required to fill out the scholarship application completely; check the box of each scholarship(s) he or she is applying for; return the scholarship application to the SCC financial aid office, along with all required information; and return portfolios, if required, to the person listed in the Scholarship Booklet.

Even with SCC’s low tuition, many students need help paying for college costs.

Almost 83 percent of SCC students receive grants, scholarships, loans and other types of financial assistance.

SCC financial aid programs assist students who need more funds than they or their families can provide to finance college costs.

SCC participates in federal, state and local programs of financial aid. Institutional and foundation scholarships are also offered to talented students in academics, athletics and other areas.

For more information, visit the SCC financial aid website or call the financial aid office at 618-634-3200, option number 2.
