Groun hog? Nope. How 'bout a hog on the ground? This porker was enjoying a siesta one afternoon last week at the Union County Fair. Maybe he (she?) was here for the solar eclipse and the Union County Fair in Anna. A "Star Wars" stormtrooper was spotted sneaking around at the fair last week. One last look...the solar eclipse of Monday, Aug. 21, as it appeared during totality...from a wonderful vantage point in downtown Cobden. Can't wait until 2024...

Please read this...Some random observations, thoughts...

This week, a few random observations and thoughts, as deadline rapidly approached...oops, there it went...

...so many special, and spectacular, events unfolded during the past week or so on the Journey Through Life...

...I couldn't help but ponder the vast spectrum of wonders Mother Nature has shared with us of late...

...50 INCHES of rain...can't even imagine such a thing...

...such an unfathomable amount of rain brought to mind a downpour back in the day which deluged us with 18 or 20 inches of rain...can't remember exactly how much...or exactly what year that was...

...I do remember motoring in the general direction of metropolitan Ware to take some pics...somewhere along Illinois Route 146, before I was even able to reach the Morgan School Road neighborhood, the highway had turned into a river...

...even with that in mind, 50 inches of rain just seems a bit on the apocalyptic side...our thoughts and prayers are with all of the folks in Texas...

...and on the other end of the spectrum, at least when it comes to the wonders of the universe around us, was the total solar eclipse of Monday, Aug. 21...

...turned out that The Other Half and yours truly had the best seat in the house, so to speak, for watching the eclipse...

...and all we had to do was walk down the street, where we joined some new friends from places like England and Denmark and Minnesota and Indiana and Tennessee and Texas to watch the eclipse...

...our view of the eclipse was briefly interrupted by a cloud or two, but during totality, we couldn't have asked for better conditions...

...speaking of the eclipse, I had a chat with a member of one of our local law enforcement agencies who shared that a groundhog (AKA woodchuck) in Anna seemed to have been a bit perplexed by the whole thing...

...seems that the critter was so baffled that it pretty much let human beings come right up close, without much of a concern at all...wish I had been there to see that...

...I did not see any groundhogs at the Union County Fair, which was last week, but I did manage to get a picture or two of a hog on the ground...this critter did not seem to have a care in the world...not a bad way to spend an afternoon...

...while we're pondering things...how can this be the last day of August already? Just doesn't seem fair...

...we're almost done for this week...just a note to the fellow traveler on the Journey Through Life who sent along an email note about snakes...thank you for the kind and thoughtful message...I will take your thoughts to heart...and, in the for whatever it's worth category, I share your thoughts about the "ecological value of all wildlife," includes snakes, creatures which I happen to like, and appreciate...

...well, enough for now...as noted...deadline time for this week had come and gone, rather quickly...
