William J. ‘Bill’ Wade

William J. “Bill” Wade, 94, of Cape Girardeau, and formerly of Tamms and Gardena, Calif., died at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016, at Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born on Nov. 27, 1922, in Tulsa, Okla., the son of Francis G. and Sarah Grace Roberts Wade.

He married Marguerite on Oct. 30, 1964. She preceded him in death on June 30, 2009.

He was retired from the City of Los Angeles Water and Power Department, where he worked in communications. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a life member of VFW Post No. 3838 in Gardena, Calif. He was also a charter member of Moose Lodge No. 2026 in Gardena.

He is survived by his stepchildren, Emma Dell (Charles) Bennett of Tamms, Shirley Jane Hamilton of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, Sammy (Dennis) Thompson of St. Louis, Perry (Carmela) Hazelwood of Tamms, Melvin (Joyce) Hazelwood of Fordyce, Ark.; a sister, Gwendolyn “Pat” (Wade) Ables of Honolulu, Hawaii; a nephew, Joe Able of Honolulu, Hawaii; nieces Linda (Paul) Jorgensen of Sun City Center, Fla., and Pamela Owens of Los Angeles, Calif.; two great-nieces; three great-nephews; four great-great-nephews; and two great-great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marguerite Wade; and a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” (Wade) Layton.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, with the Rev. Tom Bridges officiating. Interment was in St. John’s Cemetery near Dongola with military honors by area veterans.

Crain Funeral Home in Tamms was in charge of arrangements.
