Walter C. Ridenhour

Walter C. Ridenhour, 80, of Raytown, Mo., died on July 25, 2024, at the Kansas City VA Medical Center. 

He was born on Dec. 12, 1943, in Cairo, the son of Harold and Elsie Ridenhour.

He married Juna Ridenhour on April 18, 1987, in Independence, Mo. 

Mr. Ridenhour spent a lifetime proudly serving his country. He served in the United States Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserve for 21 years. He retired in 1983, having served a combat tour with the 3rd Marine Division in Vietnam from December 1967 to December 1968.

He later served as a civilian pay officer at the Marine Corps Finance Center in Kansas City for about 25 years.  

Mr. Ridenhour became an active member in the Kansas City Disabled American Veterans Chapter 2, serving as a commander and long-time adjutant.  

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Harold in 1990 and Elsie in 2015; and grandsons Chad Hensley in 2015 and Chris Hulshof in 2018.  

He is survived by his wife, Juna Ridenhour; brothers Bob Ridenhour and Larry Ridenhour (Marsha); son Jeff Ridenhour (Ruth); daughters Debbie Taylor (David) and Sheri Hensley (Jeff); son Tony Hulshof (Karen), Kenny Hulshof, and David Hulshof (Amanda); 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; many cousins, nieces and nephews.  

He was a devout Baptist and loved gospel music.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, at Greenlawn Funeral Home East in Springfield, Mo. Burial followed at 1 p.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Mo.
