Virginia Erwin

Virginia Erwin, 85, of Cobden, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019, at Integrity Healthcare of Herrin.

She was born on July 28, 1934, in Cobden, the daughter of Raymond Joseph and Frances Ann Harris Crowell.  

She married Jimmy Bruce Erwin on June 27, 1956. He preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 2005.

Mrs. Erwin was a licensed insurance agent and managed an insurance office.  

She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Friendswood Christian Church in Bourbonnais.  

She served on the Board of Regents for Liberty Baptist University in Lynchburg, Va., and Emmanuel School of Religion in Johnston City, Tenn.  

She loved golfing, gardening and was very active in churches and adventures with her family.

She is survived by her sister, Verna Bridwell of Cobden; nieces Mae Ellen Rozendal, Trish Holbrook, Beverly Sellers, Angel Tucker, Evelyn King, Theresa Erwin and Patsy Pearson Hartline; nephews Raymond Crowell, Bryan McHughes, Michael McHughes, Mark Erwin, David Erwin and Larry Pearson; sisters-in-law Velma Erwin and Rose Marie Erwin; and dear friends Dale (Monica) Russell.

Mrs. Erwin was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro. Burial was in Big Creek Cemetery.
