Robert Wayne Gearhart

Robert Wayne Gearhart, 80, of Elco, and formerly of Alto Pass, went to be with his family in heaven on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, at 8:10 a.m. 

He passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. 

He was born on Aug. 10, 1939, in Pomona, the son of Leslie and Evelyn Latchaw-Wright Gearhart. 

He married Nancy Joyce Cavaness on July 10, 1962, in Alto Pass.

Mr. Gearhart is survived by his wife Nancy Gearhart of Elco; four daughters Vivian (John) Marks of Alto Pass, Ronnie Whiteside of Jonesboro, Tricia Gearhart (Ralph Ellett) of Alto Pass and Nancy (Gary) Dillow of Mazon; two sons, Robert Jr. (Angela) Gearhart of Cobden and Roy Gearhart of Alto Pass; grandchildren Susan Ashley, JJ, Justin, Sierra, Caitie, Caycee, Holly, Bo, Annie, Cody, Sean, Charlie, Elizabeth, Riley, Kelsey, Brandi, Autumn, Samantha Paige and Sarah; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; six sisters, Jane Meadows of Dongola, Jeanne (Marvin) Meade of Gorham, Joyce (Claude) Stearns and Nancy (Curt) Conder of Murphysboro, Sharon Gearhart of Phoenix, Ariz., and Millie (Mike) McGrath of Cobden; one brother Mark (Beth) Gearhart of Ava; his mother-in-law Gladys (Cavaness) Smithey of Anna; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews and of course there was Phoebe. 

He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Leslie; his parents; his father-in-law, Charles Cavaness; brothers Lindell (Evelyn) Wright, Austin (Mary) Wright and Donnie (Betty) Wright, Jack (Carolyn) Gearhart; a sister, Judy Meade; and son-in-law Randall Davis. 

Mr. Gearhart was a volunteer fireman for the Alto Pass Fire Department for many years. He worked as an over the road truck driver and carpenter. He was a member of the Carpenter’s Union Local 638 and was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Cobden Masonic Lodge.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro, with the Rev. Davy Miller officiating. Interment was in the Alto Pass Cemetery. 

Masonic rites were conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the funeral home.

Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
