Richard Dickerson

Richard Dickerson, 87, of Ullin, died at 4:24 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019, with his wife, Joan by his side, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born on Feb. 20, 1932, in Elco, the son of J.P. and Frieda Smithey Dickerson.  

He married Sybile Joan Gurley on June 24, 1961.

Mr. Dickerson made his career in the automobile industry. He, along with his father and brother, Clinton, purchased a dealership formerly known as Wilkins Chevrolet Sales in Ullin in 1956. Together they formed a new dealership known as Dickerson Chevrolet. 

On June 10, 1961, J.P. Dickerson passed away, leaving the two sons as partners in the business which continued until their retirement in 1997 after 40 years in business.  

He and Joan loved spending time together antiquing for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ullin and Caledonia Lodge No. 47 AF and AM.

Mr. Dickerson is survived by his wife, Joan; a sister-in-law, Justine Dickerson; nephews Bob (Robin) Dickerson and Tom (Kerry) Dickerson; a niece, Jane (Russell) Frizzell;  and a cousin, Beverly Kay Rendleman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Clinton Dickerson; and his mother-in-law, Gladys Cogger.

Masonic rites were conducted at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin.

Funeral services services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin, with the Rev. Bob Dickerson officiating. Interment followed in the Ullin Cemetery.
