Ray Sadler

Ray Sadler, 95, of Jonesboro, died at 7:04 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2019, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna.

He was born on Jan. 21, 1924, in Anna, the son of William and Carrie Wray Sadler.  

He married Margaret Hankla on April 13, 1946.  She preceded him in death on Dec. 7, 2008.

Mr. Sadler served in the U.S. Army. After serving in the Army, he hauled milk for Prairie Farms Creamery from 1949 until the mid-1990s.  

He also was in used car and salvage sales. He loved racing stock cars.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a 50-year member of the Jonesboro Masonic Lodge and a Shriners member.

He is survived by his sons, Wesley (Deborah) Sadler and Dale (Tina) Sadler; a daughter, Juvata (Mike) Carter; grandchildren Angela (Chris) Boyd, Jason (Jenny) Sadler, Carrie (Leon) Alsip, Callie (Brock) Eaker, Haleigh Sadler, Morgan Sadler, Dustin Ryan and Brianna Mull; great-grandchildren Hunter Boyd, Jenna Sadler, Abby and Ally Williams, Grace and Madison Mowell, Maislyn Smalley, Avery, Evelyn and Bennett Eaker and Journey Hancock; a sister-in-law, Helen Sitter; a daughter-in-law, Barb (Alan) Casper; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Wayne Sadler; a grandson, Tim Sadler; a great-grandson, Austin Mowell; a son-in-law, John Carter; and six brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro, with Pastor Randy Morgan officiating. 

Interment was in the Jonesboro Cemetery, with military honors accorded by the VFW’s Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of Anna and the Illinois Honor Guard.
