Rae Evelyn King

Rae Evelyn King, 74, of Vienna, and formerly of Cypress, died Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, at 9:12 a.m. at Baptist Health in Paducah.

She was born on May 11, 1942, in the Renshaw Community in Pope County. She was the daughter of Festus E. and Mildred J. Kelly Martin.

On April 6, 1958, she married Dean King at the Dixon Springs Baptist Church. He preceded her in death on May 23, 2006.

Survivors include her children, Rick (his wife, Mary) King of Vienna and Kelly (her husband, Shaun) Aden of Dongola; seven grandchildren, Dustin, Dereck, Kara, Kyle, Hillary, Kory and Adam; nine great-grandchildren, Ethan, Zoey, Lukas, Abigail, Lila, Kenley Rae, Hayden, Eli and Jonas; a sister, Bettie Davis of Vienna; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Kevin King, and a brother, John Martin.

She had been employed for many years as a convenience store manager throughout Western Kentucky and Southern Illinois. She had previously been employed as a dietary supervisor at the Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis for two years.

She was an excellent cook. She had operated an in-home candy making business and, along with her sister, Bettie, formed Sisters Sweets, a custom baking business. She had also cooked at her daughter’s restaurant, Kelly’s Kountry Kitchen.

Following the tragic death of her son Kevin, she felt a calling into a ministry of assisting others who had experienced loss. She was employed for the past several years as the aftercare services coordinator at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna until declining health prevented her from working. She touched the lives of many through the years with her encouraging spirit, a kind word and a hug.

She was a faithful member of the Vienna First Baptist Church. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and always considered herself to be Elvis Presley’s No. 1 fan.

She was devoted to her family and cherished every moment spent with them.

A service honoring the life of Mrs. King will be conducted Thursday, today, at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Matt Snell and Dr. Ed Hollis will officiating. Burial will be in the Friendship Cemetery near Dongola.
