R. Edwin ‘Sonny’ Eddleman

R. Edwin “Sonny” Eddleman, 86, of Anna, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2023, at Integrity Healthcare in Marion.

He was born on Aug. 16, 1937, in Anna, the son of Paul and Helen Jenkins Eddleman.  

He married Carole Davidson on Sept. 19, 1964, and she survives.

Mr. Eddleman was a lifelong farmer. He was a lifelong member of and past church council president of St. John’s Lutheran Church near Dongola. 

He served on the Board of Directors at Anna State Bank for many years.  

He was a 60-plus year member and a 30-plus year board member of the Union County Farm Bureau, a member of the Union County Fair Board, a 4-H leader, a member of the A-J Rotary Club and a past coach of youth softball.  

His professional accomplishments included Master Farmer 1989, Superior Pork Producer Award 1990, Governor’s Award Conservation Farm Family of the Year 1993, first place winner several years of the No Till Contest of the Union County Soil and Water Conservation District. 

Survivors include his wife Carole; daughter Susan (Tim) Nance; son Rodney Eddleman; grandchildren, Nicole (Kris) Potter, Macayla Nance and Landon Nance; sister Lucille (Don) Rich; brother-in-law Robert (Patricia) Davidson; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Linda Davidson.

Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, with Pastor Chere Ridel officiating. Entombment followed at St. John’s Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
