Phil Miller

Phil Miller

Phil Miller, 89, of Anna went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022. He passed peacefully in his home surrounded by family.

He was born in Thebes on Feb. 19, 1933, and was raised on his family farm in Rock Springs Hollow.

He graduated from Thebes High School in 1952 before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953.

The month he was discharged from the Army, Phil met his wife, Wanda Basse, at The Roller Bowl in Cairo. They were married in October. It was a match made in skating rink heaven and the two went on to enjoy a marriage of over 67 years.

During this time, Phil spent over 17 years managing Miller Restaurants in Ware, Anna and Cape Girardeau and then 37 years as a painting contractor.

Known as a man of the Word, his greatest work was his work for the Lord. He spent over 50 years of his life in ministry, including his time with No Greater Love Ministries.

He dedicated his life to telling the good news, and he prayed for thousands of individuals to receive Jesus in countries all over the world, including Austria, England, the former East Germany, Gambia, Germany, Honduras, Kazakhstan, Mexico, the Philippines, Russia, as well as local jails and prisons.

He could often be found doing street ministry at events, fairs and festivals.

The question he would want to ask you today is “If you could be sure you would go to heaven, would you want to?” If your answer is yes, say this prayer, “Jesus, come into my heart. I accept you. Amen” Then tell someone nearby that you have accepted Jesus. Nothing brought Phil more joy than helping others find the love of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Velma (Jackie) Miller, and father, Lloyd Miller; brother Ralph Miller; brother and sister-in-law Roger and Vida Miller; infant twin siblings; and granddaughter Katianne Miller.

He is survived by wife, Wanda; five children Phillip (Vickie) Miller, Glenn (Beth) Miller, Melissa (Ted) Johnson, Diana (Nick) Kelsch and Randy (Avisi Tshiamalenge) Miller; and 10 grandchildren Aaron Miller, Nathaniel (Christina) Johnson, Jessica (AJ Seiller) Miller, Jennifer Miller, Zach (Paige Standen-FI) Johnson, Kiersten Johnson, Nicholas Kelsch, Noah Kelsch, Grant Miller and Asher Miller.

Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.

Memorials can be made to No Greater Love Ministries or to Teen Challenge.
