Penny Rhymer South

Penny Rhymer South, 64, of Cobden, died at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Union County Hospital in Anna.

She was born on April 19, 1952, in Cairo, the daughter of Lee and Virgie Sims Rhymer.

She was a graduate of Egyptian High School in Tamms, Class of 1970. She proudly dedicated the last 25 years of her life to PAWS, serving the organization in numerous capacities. Over the last 16 years she worked as the PAWS Place facility manager. Before working at PAWS she worked at Walmart and was a skilled seamstress, mom and Avon lady.

She is survived by her daughter, Kelly (Janseen) Hand of Makanda; a son, Corey South of Makanda; grandchildren Nolan and Reese Hand; and two aunts, Erma Shelton and Cleta Poole.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, today, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna/Jonesboro, with the Rev. Jay Franklin officiating. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery near Dongola.
