Pearl A. Baker

Pearl A. Baker, 91, of Anna, died Thursday, Jan.  6, 2022, at 7:05 p.m. at her residence. 

She was born on Aug. 11, 1930, in Dongola, the daughter of Edward and Velva Lentz Baker.

She worked for the City of Anna for 30 years until her retirement. She then got to enjoy babysitting her great- and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was also a caretaker for her mother, sisters, one uncle and one aunt until their deaths. 

She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. For years, she would have a huge family dinner every Sunday and her cooking was unlike any other. Pearl was the matriarch to the whole family.

Survivors include her niece, Frances (David) Cook Sr.; great-nieces and nephews David (Janet) Cook, Scottie Cook, Amanda (Chris) Fowler, John (Robin) Stuber, Jackie Atwood and Jeff Stuber; 12 great-great-nieces and nephews; 19 great-great-great-nieces and nephews; and several other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Louise Baker and Bernice Morber; one niece, Ruth Ann (Jack) Stuber; and many friends. 

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro, with Bryan McAlister officiating. Interment followed in Christian Chapel Cemetery. 

Memorials can be made to Christian Chapel Cemetery or to Hospice of Southern Illinois. 

Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro was in charge of arrangements.
