Patricia ‘Pat’ A. Lewis

Patricia “Pat” A. Lewis, 80, of Kissimmee, Fla., and formerly of Anna, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022, at  Advent East Hospital in Orlando, Fla. 

She was born on March 2, 1941, the daughter of John Bruce “JB” and Vivian Marlow Presley. 

She married William “Bill” A. Lewis on Aug. 24, 1963, in Murphysboro. 

She graduated from Murphysboro High School in 1959. She and her twin sister loved to sing, dance and perform. 

She then graduated from DePaul Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis in 1962. She worked as an RN for three years at DePaul Hospital and became a supervisor over the orthopedic ward. 

She married her husband, Bill, while he was attending the St. Louis University School of Law in 1963. They moved to Anna in 1965.  

She worked briefly at Union County Hospital in Anna and then devoted her full time to raising her daughter.  

In 1986 she developed an interest in assisting the developmentally disabled, so she became a licensed nursing home administrator, opened New Way, a facility for the developmentally disabled, and pursued her dedication to the mentally disadvantaged until retiring in 2004. 

Pat’s other major interests were golf, racquetball, reading and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Union County Country Club for 46 years and Kokopelli Country Club in Marion for several years. She played in numerous racquetball and golf tournaments over the years.  

Pat had enjoyed wintering and playing golf in Reunion, Fla., with Bill and friends since 2009. She will be remembered as kind, compassionate, comforting, giving, funny, competitive and feisty.

Pat is survived by her husband, William A. Lewis; a daughter, Mary Margaret Lewis (Rick) Hardesty of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; grandchildren Nicholas and Alexandra Hardesty; twin sister Kay Presley DuHasek; a brother-in-law, Jack (Mary Della) Lewis Jr; many nieces, nephews and cousins whom she adored. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Jack and Josephine Lewis; a stepsister, Mary Beth Wilton; and her granddog, Skittles.
