Ora L. Essex

Ora L. Essex, 98, of Pulaski, died at 1:12 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Hillview Healthcare Center in Vienna.

She was born on Sept. 1, 1918, in Olmsted, the daughter of George and Rosina Jacobsmeyer Schukar.

She married Joseph William “Joe” Essex on April 26, 1941, and they enjoyed 67 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on May 17, 2008.

She was a member at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and ladies aid of the church home extension. She loved traveling, going to SMILES and German polka dances.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Adrian) Bowers of Lake of Egypt; six grandchildren, Gary W. (Karen) Goins II of Pulaski, Laurie (John) Duckworth of Grand Chain, Bruce (Patty) Bowers of Sebring, Fla., Jayma Boyd of Tampa, Fla., Chris Bowers and Jeff Bowers, both of Marion; eight great-grandchildren, Bryan Cravens, Gary W. Goins III, Nathan Austin, Jennifer Skelcher, Brandon Bowers, Ashley Amberger, Kristen Duckworth and Adrianna Furlow; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters, Betty Carol and baby girl Essex; a brother, Alvin Schukar; an infant brother and sister; and a grandson, baby boy Goins.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 27, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Olmsted, with the Rev. Paul Donner officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Pulaski.

Memorials can be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Olmsted and to Rose Hill Cemetery in Pulaski.

Crain Funeral Home in Ullin was in charge of arrangements.
