Norman ‘Jay’ Elkins

Norman “Jay” Elkins, 87, of Marion, and formerly of Cobden, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at the Marion VA Medical Center.

He was born on March 11, 1930, in St. Clair County, the son of Gus Clement and Ethel Maude Miller Elkins.

He married Georgia Webb on May 31, 1988, in Paducah.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia Elkins of Marion; a son, Stanley (Marilyn) Elkins of Anna; a daughter, Pamela Graham of Anna; a stepdaughter, Robyn Lindsay of Marion; four grandchildren, Justin (Nicki) Graham, Shannon Graham, Sarah Elkins and Jason (Jessica) Elkins; step-grandchildren Colleen Lindsay, Payton (Cassie) Lindsay, Clark Lindsay and Hoyt Lindsay; three great-grandchildren, Jacob “J.P.” Graham, Logan Graham and Royce Thompson; Stanley and Pamela’s mother, Sibyl Geraldine Elkins of Marion; two sisters-in-law, Ermadell Elkins of Anna and Mary Elkins of Jonesboro; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by three brothers, Clifford, Fred and Frank Elkins; and three sisters, Mabel Elkins, Myrtle Pender and Betty Forby.

He was a member of the Limestone Baptist Church. He retired after 36 1/2 years from Olin, where he worked in maintenance. He was very savvy with electronics and woodworking, and was known as “Mr. Fix It” to his family. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden. The joys of his life were his children and grandchildren and he cherished the time he spent with each of them.

He served in the U.S. Army. He was a surgical tech during the Korean Conflict.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro, with Rick Wall officiating. Interment was in the Alto Pass Cemetery.

Graveside military rites were conducted by Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW in Anna and the Illinois Army National Guard military honor team of Marion.

Memorials can be made to the Alto Pass Cemetery.
