Nancy Lee Lyerla

Nancy Lee Lyerla, 90, of McHenry, died on Feb. 15, 2022, at JourneyCare in Barrington.

She was born in Chicago on Aug. 31, 1931, the daughter of Gordon and Adele Nelson.

She is survived by her three children, Nora (Dale) Brown, Brad Lyerla (Dona Morgan) and Amy Stull; her grandchildren Cassie (Luke) Tessman, Claire Lyerla, Rachel (Joshua) Zbinden, Abbie (Mike) Redfield, Joseph Lyerla, Caleb Brown (Dana Neiswander), Jareb Brown,  Micah (Lauren) Brown and Nina Lyerla (David Seyler); her great grandchildren, Ashton, Tessman, Camden Redfield, Gunner Redfield, Rylie Brown, Logan and Skyler Brown and Esther Lyerla Zbinden; her cousin Gloria McKinney; and her sister in-law Shirley Nelson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Lyerla; her parents, Gordon and Adele Nelson; and her brother, Craig Nelson.

Mrs. Lyerla was an alumna of Carthage College, where she met her husband Ralph.  They lived in Hoffman Estates for 20-plus years.  

In 1976, Mrs. Lyerla was elected in a statewide election as an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention in Kansas City.  

In 1983, they retired to the family farm in Anna, where Mrs. Lyerla served on the board of Union County Hospital in Anna, was a member of the garden club and Home Extension, and was involved with the Cancer Society.  

She was an active member of Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church in Anna and served there also. She moved to McHenry in August 2018 to be closer to family.

Services are being scheduled for May 2022.

Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
