Nancy Lee Cox
Nancy Lee Cox, 79, of Dongola, died at 1:25 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023, at her home. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by members of her family.
She was born on Jan. 29, 1943, at the family home in Dongola. She was the daughter of Marion Dewitt Lingle and Catherine Hartline Lingle.
On Nov. 11, 1961, she married Charles Cox in Anna. He preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 2000.
Mrs. Cox is survived by: her children, Kevin Dewitt (Wendy) Cox of Cobden and Rhonda Kay (Robert) Duty of Dongola; four grandchildren, Kassi (Justin) Needling, Kyle Cox, Cali (Ivan) Basler and Charlie Duty; two stepgrandchildren, Halle Short and Dawson Short; five great-grandchildren, Jayci Needling, Kynlee Needling, Charlee Needling, Avery Golliher (who thought of his Maw-Maw as his best friend) and Stevie Kay Basler; a sister, Marion Kay Thompson of Dongola; a brother, Clarence Burrow (Othela) Lingle of Lady Lake, Fla.; a niece, Sharon Welch; and a nephew, Dave Burkholder.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She was a 1961 graduate of Dongola High School. She had played the French horn in the school band and participated in the alumni band until she was in her 40s.
She attended Shawnee Community College, where she earned her certification in cosmetology. For over 50 years, Mrs. Cox operated a beauty shop in her home in Dongola, Nancy’s Styling Porch.
She enjoyed fishing, gardening, canning and cooking. She also enjoyed playing the slots on trips to the casino.
She was an avid fan of Quality Value Convenience, the QVC network. She was a former member of Lodge No. 1346, Loyal Order of the Moose, in Anna.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be a private family gathering to celebrate her life.
