Melody D. Meadows

Melody D. Meadows, 68, of Cobden, died Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. 

She was born on July 20, 1954, in St. Louis, the daughter of Christina Ellen Nickles. 

She married Doug Meadows on Aug. 30, 1986, in Anna.

She is survived by her husband Doug Meadows of Cobden; her daughter, Mary Katherine (Terrance) Meadows-Oatman of Carbondale; her son, Douglas Eugene (Megan Lynn) Meadows II of Anna; her mother, Christina Ellen Nickles of Anna; her grandchildren, Alex Meadows, Eldin Myers, Connor Douglas Meadows and Olivia Elaine Meadows, other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Chris and Estella Nickles; an aunt, Mary Nickles; and an uncle, Glen Brown. 

She had many accomplishments in her life, including being crowned as the 1970 Union County Fair Queen. 

She retired from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2015. She was a member of the Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cobden. 

She was an avid crafter and enjoyed scrapbooking and planning events. Most of all, she loved her family and spending time with them.

Funeral Mass for Melody Meadows was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cobden, with Father Uriel Salamanca officiating. Interment followed in St. Joseph Cemetery in Cobden. 

A Rosary service was held at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 31, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden.
