Marvin L. Powles Sr.

Marvin L. Powles Sr., 81, of Dongola, and formerly of Zion, died at 12:46 a.m.  Monday, July 27, 2020, at his home.

He was born on Feb. 4, 1939, in Mill Creek, the son of Joseph and Reba Jordan Powles.  

He married Sandra Stokes on Feb. 4, 1964.

Mr. Powles served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He started working for Browning and Ferris in Waukegan at the age of 25, working his way up to district manager before his retirement. He loved traveling, camping and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra; children Donald Joseph Powles and family, Pamela Ann Marsh and family, Marvin Leroy Powles Jr. and family, Bridget Faye Harris and family, Norman Leavern Powles and family and Carolyn Sue Hironimus and family; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joyce Nadine Lynch.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Eli Powles; his mother, Reba Jordan Powles; a sister, Jodean Johns;  and a brother, Jerry Powles.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola.  

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Bob Richardson officiating. Entombment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery near Dongola.  

Due to Illinois Department of Public Health guidelines, groups of no more than 50 people at a time will be allowed in to pay their respects.

Memorials can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home.
